The Impossible Voyage was produced by Georges Melies in 1904. These prints were originally hand colored by lines of girls, each painting one color on frame after frame as the film went by on a long table.
He had no camera movement and really sort a number of short stage plays, but they are fanciful and imaginative and well worth a look..
